Non-Scientist Member

Also known as: non-scientific member, nonscientific member

An IRB member whose primary concerns are in non-scientific areas; required for quorum at convened board meetings.

Federal regulations require at least one member whose primary concerns are in non-scientific areas (often an ethicist, attorney, or clergy member). A non-scientist must be present for the convened board to constitute a quorum and approve research.
